Old Well Labs | Our Story

2.21.25

Dear OWL Users,

At OWL, we love using our data to identify promising managers as early as possible in their life cycle. While OWL offers several data sets to help with this - such as our team change alerts, which we recently highlighted - one of our favorites remains global stock ownership disclosures.

Last February, we looked through over 400 new 13F filings to share a curated list of 30 managers who disclosed a 13F for the first time. This year, the new batch is even larger, with over 700 investment firms filing their first 13F. Once again, we’ve gone through them all and put together a list of 30 with active portfolios and compelling team backgrounds.

Most are recent launches, while a few are established managers who crossed the AUM threshold for 13F reporting. The list spans 20 cities and includes several notable pod spinouts, sector-focused funds, and even four managers who successfully launched after working at top endowments (MIT, Notre Dame, Emory, and Duke) – a career path we’ll admit we have a bit of a soft spot for at OWL!
